Why Nozawa Onsen Is Different
Nozawa Onsen is more than a ski resort.
It is a traditional Japanese hot spring village where travelers can enjoy skiing during the day and experience an onsen town afterward.
For the upcoming 2026–2027 winter season, Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort has already begun selling early-bird season passes, with the current scheduled season running from late November 2026 into early May 2027, subject to snow and weather conditions.
That combination of skiing + snow + Japanese onsen culture is one reason Nozawa Onsen attracts international winter travelers.
But getting there with luggage can require some planning.
The official Nozawa Onsen tourism information identifies Iiyama Station as the nearest Shinkansen station. From there, travelers can take the Nozawa Onsen Liner, which takes approximately 25 minutes, although some train and bus schedules do not connect directly.
For travelers carrying skis, snowboards and several suitcases, a private door-to-door transfer provides another option.
