Visit Japan’s Famous Snow Monkeys
For many international visitors, Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park is the reason they first discover this area.
The park is famous for Japanese macaques living in the mountain environment, with the sight of monkeys around the hot springs becoming internationally recognized.
From Shibu Onsen, the park area is nearby; official guidance notes that travelers using the bus access typically get off at the Snow Monkey Park stop and then continue on foot.
One important point for winter visitors: vehicles do not drive directly to the monkeys themselves. The Shibu-side forest-road parking area is closed in winter, and visitors use the Kanbayashi-side access and continue to the park on foot.
So think of your private vehicle as transportation to the appropriate access area—not a vehicle ride to the monkeys.

Yes. On long-distance transfers, reasonable rest stops can be made at highway service areas depending on traffic, route and schedule.
You can use the restroom, stretch your legs, buy drinks or snacks, or have a simple meal when time permits. This is especially helpful after a long international flight.
Q4. Can you take us directly to Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park?
We can take you to an appropriate vehicle-access point in the Snow Monkey Park area, but visitors must complete the final section on foot.
From the Kanbayashi Onsen area, the official guidance indicates approximately a 25–40 minute walk through the forest to reach Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park. In winter, the Shibu-side forest-road parking area is closed, so access arrangements need to reflect the season.
